【SDGs】下水から生まれる地産地消の資源循環

下水を処理するときに出る汚泥からリンを抽出し、農作物用の肥料に生まれ変わらせた児玉かんなさん。リンは、下水処理の際に配管を詰まらせる原因となっており、厄介な存在でした。そこで児玉さんたちは、それらの問題の解消とリンを資源として有効活用できないかと考え、この取り組みをスタート。今後は、下水処理の過程で出る汚泥そのものを、エネルギー資源として活用する発電システムを開発したいと語る児玉さんの思い描く未来とは？

Ms. Kanna Kodama has extracted phosphorus from the sludge produced during sewage treatment and transformed it into fertilizer for crops. Phosphorus was a nuisance that caused pipes to clog during sewage treatment. Ms. Kodama and her team started this project in hopes of solving this problem and finding a way to make effective use of phosphorus as a resource. Ms. Kodama says that in the future she wants to develop a power generation system that uses the sludge produced during sewage treatment as an energy resource. What kind of future does she envision?
