【SDGs】米づくりで貴重な地下水源を守る

新たな米づくりの担い手を見つけて、地下水の保全活動に取り組む柳木大輔さん。熊本県の地下水は、地域に住む約100万人の生活用水として使用されています。その水源となる田んぼが近年、社会環境や食文化の変化などによって減少傾向にあることがわかり、この取り組みをスタート。この活動を通して、農業の担い手不足を解消し食料自給率の向上にもつなげたい、地下水を守ることは農業を守ること、と語る柳木さんの思い描く未来とは？ ＊柳木さん（やな）は柳の異体字表記です。 Mr. Daisuke Yanagi is working to find new rice growers and protect groundwater in Kumamoto Prefecture. Kumamoto Prefecture’s groundwater is used as drinking water for approximately one million people living in the region. He started this initiative after learning that there has been a decline in the number of rice fields, which are a source of water, in recent years due to societal changes and a change in food culture. Through this activity, Mr. Yanagi hopes to resolve the shortage of farmers and improve food self-sufficiency. He says that protecting groundwater is protecting agriculture. What kind of future does he envision?
